HHW/CESQG Collection Facility Design Workshops
David Nightingale has assisted local jurisdictions plan for and develop systems for management of HHW and VSQG wastes since 1987. In the early 1990’s he developed presentations regarding the state-of-the-art HHW/VSQG collection operations and design. This lead the to development of an workshops focused on collection facility design. This was followed by the creation of the HHW Collection Facility Design Guide – Charting Your Path Through the Household Hazardous Waste Facility Design Process and later the Chronicle of the HHW Corner with additional HHW facility design, operations, as well as more general HHW articles.
The intended audience for the workshop and publications are those contemplating or already involved with the facility design process who may or may not be design professionals. The workshop helps ramp up HHW/VSQG professionals and their designers on both how the design process works and key points to consider before and during the formal design process. Real world good and poor (anonymous) examples from existing facilities help drive home the workshop key points. It is not uncommon for participants to attend subsequent workshops as they experience different phases of the facility development process and have different issues and questions.
SWA has provided this workshop across the country at national and regional conferences as well as for individual jurisdiction’s staff and local stakeholders.
